Surf, Coastal Flooding Advisories Along Coast As Wind, Rain Sweep Across Tri-State Area

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Rain and winds sweeping across the Tri-State area Thursday could pose some trouble along the coast.

Not to mention it's Derek Jeter's final home game at Yankee Stadium tonight.

CBS 2 Meteorologist John Elliott said if you're planning on going to the game, bring a poncho.

The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory until 6 p.m. Thursday for the Jersey shore.

In New York, High rip current risk remains in effect until 8 p.m. for Brooklyn, Queens, Suffolk and Nassau Counties.

The rainfall Thursday is expected to total 1.5 inches in the city; 1.9 inches in Coram, Long Island; 1.4 inches in Brick, New Jersey and 1.7 inches in Montauk, Long Island.

Forecasters are also predicting northeast winds gusting to 35 mph on Long Island and at the Jersey Shore.

The weather service says areas prone to tidal flooding are expected to experience minor roadway flooding and beach erosion during high tide. That occurs around 9 a.m. along the ocean and later in the back bays and inlets.

Forecasters are also saying to watch for ponding on roadways and flooding in poor drainage areas.

Thursday night will be  breezy, damp and cool with occasional rain and drizzle with temperatures holding in the low 60s.
