Superheroes, 'Frozen' Characters Among 2014's Hottest Halloween Costumes

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- Halloween is just a couple of weeks away, and a new study has found that this year spending for the holiday will top $11.3-billion.

The average household will spend $125 on candy, costumes, and decorations. Most people have said they would spend the same amount as last year, but about 20 percent said that they planned to spend more.

No matter how much you plan to spend there are a lot of choices when it comes to costumes.

As CBS 2's Cindy reported, you can expect to see lot's of characters from Frozen. Ella Sobey said that she planned on being Elsa, but decided to go to the dark side with a costume called Forsaken Souls.

"I've never really worn anything like this for Halloween," Sobey, 10, said.

Erica Gomez was shopping for her 5-year-old Johniyah.

"She wants to be a princess slash like vampire. This one is a little scary, so she might scare the other children in school," Gomez said.

Superheroes are big this year, especially Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, that's what 3-year-old Mikey plans to be, thanks to his grandmother.

"I got the Michelangelo costume for him, his name is Mikey he's totally into this year, and it's the cutest outfit. Look it's got the mask and the little muscles," Melissa Roman said.

That goes for girls as well.

"We actually have a turtle at home named Michelangelo so this is quite a find for her," Maria Mendez said.

Other costumes are popular for adults.

"Game of Thrones is big. Frozen is still big for the adults, they want to do a whole family theme, all the superheroes every year," Jason Sandlofer said.

Atticus Boyle, 11, likes to do his own thing. Last year he was Wayne from Wayne's World, this year maybe Garth.

"No kid gets my stuff, but all the adults are laughing, so that's what I try to aim for," Boyle said.

The other big sellers have been characters from shows like 'The Walking Dead' and other throwback such as 'The Cat In The Hat' and 'Where's Waldo.'
