Suffolk Police Hunt Man Who Allegedly Struck Police Officer With Truck

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Suffolk County Police want your help finding a Long Island man who they say set fire to his girlfriend's apartment before hitting a police officer with his truck.

Police said the encounter occurred about 2 a.m. Thursday in Brentwood.

The suspect is identified as Manuel DeLeon Cuellar. He may be armed with a knife, police said.

Cuellar is 24, has a beard, 5'9" and weighs about 175 pounds, police said. He was last seen wearing a black jacket and white checkered shirt.

Cuellar broke into his girlfriend's Westwood Drive apartment, assaulted her and set fire to the apartment, according to police.

He then fled the scene, striking a responding Third Precinct police officer with a Chevrolet pickup truck, before crashing nearby and running away on foot.

Cuellar's girlfriend and police officer were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
