Suffolk County Police Officer Stabbed In Face

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Suffolk County police officer is recovering after he was stabbed in the face in Central Islip Saturday afternoon.

Police responded to a 911 call at 281 Oakland Ave. around 1:20 p.m. and discovered suspect Mark Caraway, 40, armed with knives. 

Police said Caraway was confrontational and stabbed an officer in the face. Another officer then shot Caraway once in the abdomen.

The officer required facial surgery and is in serious, but non-life-threatening, condition.

Caraway, 40, is in critical condition at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore.

Police are investigating the incident.
