Man Gets 25 Years In Stony Brook Rape Case
RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A 23-year-old Long Island man accused of raping and terrorizing a woman nearly three years ago has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.
On Nov. 20, 2012, prosecutors said Patrick O'Sullivan — wearing dark clothing and a ski mask — entered a Stony Brook home through an unlocked door and then bound and attacked a woman at gunpoint.
Investigators claimed that after the rape, O'Sullivan left his victim tied up so that she had to use her tongue to dial 911.
The woman had been housesitting for friends at the time of the incident.
O'Sullivan, of East Moriches, admitted raping the woman and then plotting to kill her after his arrest. He pleaded guilty to rape, criminal sexual act, burglary, sexual abuse and conspiracy in February.
During the sentencing, the victim said, "I don't think there are any words to describe the sheer panic, terror and fear" she felt during the attack.
"It's a moment in time that changes you forever," she said. "For over an hour that night, I was terrorized, tormented and violated."
Assistant District Attorney James Chalifoux said O'Sullivan had no apparent motive.
"This was every woman's nightmare," he told 1010 WINS' Mona Rivera. "They were complete strangers."
O'Sullivan apologized in court.
