Report: MRI Confirms Giants' Shepard Has Sprained Ankle
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- It's only a sprain.
The Giants received good news Friday when Sterling Shepard's MRI showed the wide receiver had sprained his left ankle and bone bruise.
The second-year player was carted off the field Wednesday, stoking fears that he may have suffered a serious injury.
The injury happened during a drill in which he was running a hammer route, coach Ben McAdoo said Wednesday.
"He put his foot in the ground, and he rolled his ankle," the coach said.
The use of the cart was precautionary.

"At first I was pretty worried," Shepard told reporters Friday. "I had never really rolled my ankle like that before, and I felt it pop, and that was the main thing that pretty much scared me."
Shepard is in a walking boot and said he's not sure how long he'll be out. "I'm taking it day by day," he said.
He called a report that he was apparently in tears after suffering the injury "an over-exaggeration" that scared his mother.
"It's pretty amazing because you guys are two fields over (and) I had on a mirror visor," Shepard said.
A second-round draft pick out of Oklahoma in 2016, Shepard caught 65 passes for 683 yards and eight touchdowns last season.
