Staten Island eliminated from Little League World Series

Staten Island's South Shore Little League team wins state championship

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Staten Island's South Shore Little League team has been eliminated from the 2024 Little League World Series. 

They had been representing the United States' Metro Region.

In their first game, Staten Island lost 9-1 to the Paseo Verde Little League team from Henderson, Nevada, but they stayed alive in the double-elimination tournament.

South Shore defeated Sioux Falls, South Dakota 6-3 on Saturday and Hinsdale, Illinois 4-0 on Sunday.

Tuesday night, they lost 6-1 to Lake Mary Little League, from Little Mary, Florida.

"Congratulations to Staten Island's Little League team for making it all the way to the World Series! Your city is so proud of your hard work and dedication. We'll be rooting for you on and off the field in all that's yet to come!" Mayor Eric Adams wrote in a post on X.

Staten Island's schedule for Little League World Series

The 2024 Little League World Series kicked off Aug. 14 with 20 teams from 10 U.S. regions and 10 international regions. 

The U.S. bracket final will be played on Aug. 24. The winner advances to the face the international bracket winner in the Little League World Series Championship on Aug. 25.

  • Henderson, Nevada 9, Staten Island, New York 1 

Saturday, Aug. 17

  • Staten Island, New York 6, Sioux Falls, South Dakota 3 (Elimination game) 

Sunday, Aug. 18

  • Staten Island, New York 4, Hinsdale, Illinois 0 (Elimination game) 

Tuesday, Aug. 20

  • Little Mary, Florida 6, Staten Island, New York 1

How to watch Staten Island in Little League World Series

If you're watching in person, admission is free at both the Howard J. Lamade Stadium and the Volunteer Stadium. Seating is first-come, first-served with no ticket required, except for one section behind home plate. 

On championship weekend, tickets will be required, but are typically reserved for league volunteers and special guests. However, the hill terrace over the outfield will have seating available. 

The Little League World Series broadcasts games on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC. 

Staten Island full of pride for South Shore Little League team

This was the South Shore Little League team's fourth appearance in the Little League World Series

Staten Island improved to 17-2 this summer and beat the Morristown Little League team 5-0 to advance to the tournament. 

"It's a homerun for South Shore Little League! They're on their way to the Little League World Series, and we're all rooting for you," Mayor Eric Adams wrote on X when they won.  

"Continue to make more great memories, and to make Staten Island proud. We are all with you," the borough president wrote on Facebook.
