Man Stabbed After Quarrel Aboard MTA Bus On Staten Island
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Police late Tuesday were searching for a man accused of stabbing a fellow city bus passenger, following a fight on a bus on Staten Island.
As CBS2's Alice Gainer reported, the stabbing happened on the sidewalk after the two passengers got off an S74 bus around 1:45 p.m. The bus was at the intersection of Broad and Canal streets in the Stapleton section of Staten Island at the time.
Police said a 24-year-old man was stabbed multiple times in the chest and hand. The victim and his attacker had been quarreling over a seat, sources said.
Witnesses said when the bus stopped, they saw a man run off – and then saw the victim being helped off the bus into an ambulance.
"He was like stabbed, like, somewhere in this area -- like between, like from his chest and you know, his stomach area. There was a lot of blood. He was, like, gushing out blood," said witness Bobby Ray-Hart.
The as-yet-unidentified victim was rushed to Richmond University Medical Center in critical condition, officials said.
As of 5 p.m., the search continued for the man who stabbed the victim.
