Power Outage Hits Brooklyn's Spring Creek Towers, Formerly Known As Starrett City
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The power is back on at Spring Creek Towers - formerly known as Starrett City - in Brooklyn.
Forty six buildings at Van Siclen and Flatlands Avenues were impacted by the outage.
Roughly 5,800 residential units were without power, and there were numerous stuck elevators.
Four people suffered minor injuries, WCBS 880's Mike Smeltz reported.
A woman named Dorothy was in her apartment's laundry room when suddenly the hum from the machines stopped and lights went off.
"My clothes have been in the laundry room ever since," she told Smeltz. "I'm waiting for them to finish."
She wondered how this could happen on such a mild day.
"I'm completely unexpected. I wouldn't expect anything like that on a beautiful day," she said. "Maybe in a storm or something like that, but it was just a shock to everyone."
The complex runs its own power system.
The outage started at 10:21 a.m. and was restored by 3 p.m.
