Stamford Train Station Parking Garage Closed Due To Chunks Of Falling Concrete
STAMFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) - Expect traffic delays around the Stamford Transportation Center Tuesday morning as a garage with hundreds of parking spaces was suddenly closed Monday.
Hundreds of commuters who generally use the older parking garage at the Stamford train station will be scrambling to find a place for their cars Tuesday morning.
The parking garage was shut Monday night without notice after the Department of Transportation discovered chunks of concrete falling to the level below, WCBS 880's Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau reported.
Commuter advocate Jim Cameron said more than 700 commuters use the garage.
"They are in for a rude surprise when they drive to the train station and find out that roughly a third to a half of all the parking in that garage is now gone," Cameron said.
"Luckily I came a little early so I'm not going to miss my train, that's a pretty long walk," one commuter told WCBS 880's Paul Murnane.
Commuters with daily permits for the garage will be able to park in the newer garage adjacent to the older one, but hundreds of others will be scrambling for parking spaces.
A manager and staff at the Gateway garage around the corner told Adams it would honor the station rate of $8 up to 12 hours.
