South Plainfield, N.J. Teacher Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Teen Boy For 5 Years
SOUTH PLAINFIELD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A high school teacher in South Plainfield, New Jersey, was accused Monday of sexually assaulting a young man for nearly five years – beginning when the victim was a 15-year-old boy.
John Angeline, 40, of South Plainfield, was charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, along with criminal sexual conduct, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's office.
Angeline had worked as an English teacher at South Plainfield High School, prosecutors said. As of Monday afternoon, he was being held at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick awaiting a court hearing for bail to be set.
Prosecutors said Angeline began sexually assaulting the teenage boy in South Plainfield on various occasions, starting in August 2010 when the boy was 15. Police began investigating after the victim told relatives, who in turn contacted authorities, prosecutors said.
Angeline had begun work as a substitute teacher in South Plainfield in September 2005, and became a full time English teacher at South Plainfield Middle School, prosecutors said.
He moved to the high school in September 2008.
