Man wanted in Brooklyn church livestream robbery fatally shot by U.S. Marshals in New Jersey
SOUTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. -- A man wanted in connection with the robbery of a Brooklyn bishop was killed by law enforcement officers attempting to arrest him Wednesday.
Law enforcement at the scene told CBS New York's Alecia Reid he was with his girlfriend, comparing them to a Bonnie and Clyde, saying they were wanted for crimes in several states.
Law enforcement sources confirm Shamar Leggette was shot and killed by United States Marshals.

Bishop Lamor Whitehead went live on Instagram on Wednesday night to address the deadly shooting.
"This was the guy that put the gun in my wife's face and put the gun in my 8-month-old daughter's face. So this is the guy that was at large, and he came and put the gun to my head and ripped my clergy collar off and ripped my chains off. He was just brutal," Whitehead said.
Police say Leggette was wanted in connection to a robbery in Brooklyn in July of 2022 at Leader's of Tomorrow International Ministry while the bishop was preaching. It was all caught on livestream. The thieves took off with nearly $1 million worth of jewelry from Whitehead and his wife.
"I forgive him. I been forgave him. I was angry," Whitehead said.
The two other suspects were arrested and charged in September of 2022, but Leggette had been on the run.
The New Jersey Attorney General's Office says U.S. Marshals and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives showed up to MHO Inn and Suites on Route 1 in South Brunswick to execute an arrest warrant for several felony offenses when the 41-year-old opened fire. Officers shot back, killing Leggette.
"We're praying for the Leggette family, and I'm hoping that they accept my condolences," Whitehead said.
Law enforcement recovered two firearms near the suspect. No officers were hit during the shootout.
Authorities say Leggette was with his girlfriend, who surrendered without incident.
