Sources To CBS 2: Cabbie Won't Be Charged In Accident That Killed Cooper Stock, 9

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The driver of the cab that struck and killed 9-year-old Cooper Stock on the Upper West Side this past winter will not face criminal charges, sources told CBS 2.

But the driver will not be behind the wheel of a cab in New York City again anytime soon either.

Sources said cab driver Koffi Komlani will not face any criminal charges in the Jan. 10 incident. Cooper was killed when a cab hit him as walked hand in hand with his father at 97th Street and West End Avenue, on January 10.

But the Taxi and Limousine Commission told CBS 2 that Komlani's license will be expiring on July 5, and the commission will not be renewing the license.

Komlani has not been behind the wheel since the crash, the TLC said.

Cooper and his father were crossing the street around 9 p.m. the night of January 10, when the tax making a turn from 97th Street onto West End Avenue struck them both.

In the months since the crash, friends have geared up to make sure Cooper will not be forgotten.

Dozens of cyclists pledged money to ride in Cooper's memory in an event has been dubbed 'Coop's Hoops'. Organizers have raised $20,000 to send about 40 underprivileged kids to Walt Frazier's Basketball Camp -- the same camp that Cooper attended last summer.

Cooper's classmates at the Calhoun School, 433 West End Ave., have called themselves "Cooper's Troopers." They recently spent a day of service donating books to a shelter for women and children.
