Teenager killed in train incident at Staten Island railway station

NEW YORK -- An investigation is underway after a deadly accident at a train station on Staten Island.

Police say a 15-year-old boy was killed in a train accident in Eltingville.

Officers found the teen unconscious with a head injury after responding to a 911 call just after 1 p.m. Wednesday.

MTA Police say the boy was riding the train with friends when he climbed above the car by himself, hitting an overhead structure.

He was rushed to the hospital but died a short time later.

In a statement, NYC Transit President Richard Davey said, "This was an awful situation that demonstrates again the deadly risk taken by anyone who attempts to subway surf. Our hearts go out to loved ones who have senselessly lost a child and we continue to encourage teenagers find safer ways to seek thrills."
