Police investigation underway following death of 14-year-old boy in Queens

14-year-old New Jersey boy found dead in Queens driveway

NEW YORK -- A 14-year-old boy was found shot dead in the driveway of a house in the Arverne section of Queens on Tuesday morning.

Investigators say the boy, who was reported missing, may have been there overnight, as his lifeless body was found face down and partly concealed by a parked minivan, CBS2's Dave Carlin reported.

Police suspect he was one of two victims of a drive-by shooting right around the corner at around 9:30 p.m. on Monday while out in front of a home on Beach 68th Street that is now left with bullet holes in the fence, door and window.

The boy would have rounded the corner to the home on Beach 67th, and his body might have been difficult to notice in the dark. But when the sun came up, the body was spotted by the homeowner, who asked CBS2 to not show her face.

"And I came home at 7 and I pulled up with my grandchildren in the car. He was hanging out from behind the car," the homeowner said, adding she immediately called 911.

Police had been called to area on Monday night for the shooting that wounded an 18-year-old, who is in the hospital. The 14-year-old is believed to have been shot at the same time, but he could not be found, and a woman who described herself as his foster mom told witnesses she had been out all night looking for him.

"She just happen to come here and ... 'Oh my God, that's my son,'" the homeowner said. "She said he was not a troublesome kid."

At the home struck by bullets, the couple inside said they feel for the family of the boy killed and realize they came very close to injury or death, themselves, when a bullet came into their living room.

"It was really, really scary," a woman said. "Yeah, one came in and stuck by the door here, the other one by the window. We were sitting in the living room, me and my husband. We were watching TV ... [The bullet] was like above my head because I was lying on the sofa."

"We got to stop this here violence. Fourteen years old, a child. Younger than my baby," one woman said.

The 14-year-old boy has been identified as Shawn Frye of Paterson, New Jersey. No arrest have been made.
