Police: Survivor Walks Away From Fatal Connecticut Plane Crash To Get Help
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police say a man who survived a small plane crash in New Milford, Connecticut was able to walk away from the scene to get help.
The Cessna C-172 aircraft crashed at the end of a runway at Candlelight Farms Airport Friday morning after departing from Danbury Municipal Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
Police said three people were on board the plane -- a female pilot, a co-pilot and another male passenger. The male passenger, who was injured, was able to walk away from the wreckage to a nearby home for help, police said.
Responding officers found the plane with the two other people trapped inside. They said the pilot was pulled from the plane and flown Hartford Hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. The co-pilot was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other injured passenger who went to get help was taken to Danbury Hospital.
"It just seems to have kind of nosed into the ground," a witness Frank Weller told WCBS 880's Peter Haskell. "There's a wing that was broken off, and the prop was in the ground."
Authorities said it appeared to be a training flight with a pilot and student, Haskell reported.
New Milford police, the NTSB and the FAA are investigating.
