FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - A wild night outside of a hookah lounge on Long Island led to a police officer getting struck by a hit-and-run driver while responding to reports of a slashing.

The van also ran over a man lying in the parking lot. It all started when police got a call for a slashing at the hookah bar near Conklin and Main streets just before 3 a.m.

When the first police officer arrived, he found a man across the street bleeding from his face and neck.

Police say they stopped that man after a brief chase. It was then when the driver of the minivan suddenly took off, slamming into a nearby Nissan.

That Nissan was spun around hit a female bystander.

After leaving three people injured, the minivan driver sped away.

Police cars flooded the area, with officers looking for evidence in the pouring rain.

The police officer and that female victim are expected to be OK, but here's where this case gets even more complicated.

CBS2 has learned there are two other individuals at a local hospital in Suffolk County - one has stab wounds and another with abrasions - all related to the original incident in Farmingdale.

Those victims bring the total number of injured to five. So far, police haven't said what led to all the violence and the investigation is still ongoing.
