Shots Fired At Luxury Apartment Building On Upper East Side

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are investigating two separate reports of shots fired at a luxury high-rise apartment building on the Upper East Side.

Plywood was covering up some of windows of the building, One East River Place, on East 72nd on Tuesday. The building was the target of two separate shooting incidents in the last couple of days.

Tenants reported glass shattered by bullets, but police still haven't figured out where the shots were fired from.

"Pretty scary," one person said.

"It makes me glad that my apartment doesn't face the river. It's frightening. It's frightening that that kind of thing would happen," neighbor David Saxe added.

The first incident happened on Friday morning. A resident on the 14th floor woke up to a random bullet smashing through the living room window, police said.

Then on Saturday, a shooting happened at around 1 a.m. In that case, a tenant on the 32nd floor said the glass was also blown out.

A neighbor across the street said he remembered the same thing happening to his unit 20 years ago.

"I went out to dinner. We came back and saw the panel was shattered, the outer panel. The inner panel was not. The bullet had run out of velocity and just hit the inner panel and fell between the two panels," Howie Koff said.

The NYPD is looking into the possibility that the shots came from across the East River from Roosevelt Island, but that hasn't been confirmed.

"I'm also not on that side, so I didn't feel affected by it. Our building is generally safe. Nobody's allowed in," resident Talia Cohen said. "My husband is not from New York, so he was a little bit concerned."

No one was injured in the latest mystery shootings, but the incidents have left the residents in the riverfront units on edge.
