Woman, 77, Struck, Killed By Van In Sheepshead Bay

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 77-year-old woman was struck and killed by a van Thursday evening in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn.

Police were called around 4:35 p.m. after the woman was struck at East 21st Street and Gravesend Neck Road in Brooklyn, the NYPD said.

They found the woman unconscious and unresponsive at the scene with head trauma.

Police said the woman had been struck by a 2005 white Ford Econoline van while crossing Gravesend Neck Road. The driver of the van was headed south on East 21st Street and was attempting to turn left onto Gravesend Neck Road at the time, police said.

The woman was rushed to Coney Island Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said. Her identity had not been released late Thursday.

The driver of the van remained at the scene, police said.

The NYPD Collision Investigation Squad was investigating late Thursday.
