Senator Kirsten Gillibrand Says 90 Percent Of Guns Used In Crimes Are Trafficked From Out Of State

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Senator Kirsten Gillibrand says the so called iron pipeline continues to flow, moving guns from the south up I-95 to places like New York.

"90 percent of guns used in crimes are trafficked into our city from out of state," Gillibrand said.

She says states with strong gun restrictions are at the mercy of those with weaker laws, WCBS 880's Jim Smith reported.

"Shockingly there's not a single federal law defining gun trafficking as a crime," Gillibrand said.

Her bipartisan bill mandates up to 20 years in prison to anyone buying or selling guns with someone who knowlingly couldn't own one legally.

Jackie Row-Adams is a parent who lost two children to gun violence.

"That I-95 is crucial," Row-Adams said. "We are dying every day. Our kids are dying every day."
