Sen. Schumer Makes Last-Ditch Effort To Ban Powdered Alcohol
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- There's a new push to keep children safe from the dangers of powdered alcohol, also known as Palcohol.
Sen. Charles Schumer said the highly concentrated powdered alcohol is targeted to kids and teens, and it could hit store shelves in the next few weeks.
Schumer is adding a new, emergency amendment to legislation this week that would make it illegal to produce, sell or possess Palcohol.
"When alcohol is a powdered, it can be used so much more dangerously than if it was a liquid," Schumer said. "And worst of all is that a young person can put a whole bunch of shots in one glass of water with disastrous results."
The measure will be voted on this week.
