Search On For Suspect In Bank Robberies In East Village, Other Manhattan Districts
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Tuesday were in search of a suspect wanted in a string of bank robberies in some of the most fashionable sections of Manhattan.
The first robbery happened around 2:35 p.m. this past Saturday at a Chase Bank at 130 Second Ave. in the East Village, police said.
The suspect handed the teller a note claiming he had a gun and demanded money, police said. The teller complied, and the suspect made off with $1,080, police said.
The suspect was also connected by police to two subsequent incidents, both of which occurred on Monday.
Around 2:40 p.m. Monday, a robber walked into the Citibank branch at 1107 Broadway near Madison Square Park and handed a note to the teller demanding money, police said. The suspect made off with $600.
Around 3:20 p.m. Monday, the suspect walked into a Chase Bank branch at 835 Broadway near Union Square, and handed the teller a demand note, police said. The suspect made off with $4,740.
The suspect was described as a white male, possibly albino, in his mid- to late 20s. He stood about 5 feet 10 inches tall with light hair and medium build, police said.
He was last seen wearing a black and gray jacket, dark-rimmed glasses, black sneakers, and a red bandana around his neck.
Police have released photos and video of the suspect.
