Search On For Buyer Of Winning Mega Millions Ticket Sold On Long Island
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Only one ticket nationwide matched the Mega Millions jackpot this week, and the $20 million ticket was sold on Long Island.
As CBS 2's Jennifer McLogan reported, the winning ticket was sold at the Gascon gas station at convenience store, at 443 Middle Country Rd. in Coram.
"Lotto company called us – they said, 'Congratulations, you sold the winning ticket.' I said, 'what? Can you tell me again?' He said, 'Congratulations you sold the $20 million winning ticket.' I said, 'Oh my God,'" said Gascon manager Selcuk Sevindik. "I was so excited."
Sevindik was on cloud nine Thursday, and so were his customers. Mega Millions is played in 43 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Nearly 18 million tickets sold Tuesday, and only one was a winner. That winner was sold by Sevindik at the Coram Gascon, where dozens in the community begin their days.
"I get my gas my gas here all the time," one woman said. "He's a phenomenal gentleman -- always courteous and respectful."
"He should get a percentage of the winnings," a man added.
Sevindik said, "probably, my boss is going to get some bonus, but I don't know how much."
Two days after the ticket was sold, the store was filled with customers checking their numbers. But none have been winners so far.
"I can't even talk," Sevindik said. "I want to say, 'Eh! Somebody hit that prize, and I sold that ticket."
But the mystery of who has the ticket remains.
"I'm going to put up a sign – winning ticket sold from here," Sevindik said.
The winning numbers from the Tuesday Mega Millions drawing are 19, 26, 51, 57, 73, and Mega Ball 15.
