Search Continues For Suspect Who Stabbed Woman Walking Dog In Lewisboro

LEWISBORO, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- The search continues for a man wanted in connection with the vicious attack of a woman in Westchester County.

The attack happened around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday in the area of  Bouton and Gilbert streets in Lewisboro.

Investigators said the 25-year-old woman was walking a dog when she reported a male suspect wearing a hoodie approached her from behind and then punched and stabbed her several times before fleeing.

"She fought back and at some point she believes the dog bit the suspect," said New York State Police Investigator Joseph Becerra.

The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries and investigators said nothing was stolen.

People said this kind of attack is a rare occurrence.

"We are in the process of canvassing the area, talking to neighbors and we have increased police patrol in that particular neighborhood," said Becerra.

Neighbors were surprised to hear about the attack.

"For the first time having to lock our doors, and we're advised to keep our outside lights on," said South Salem resident George Van Marter.

"I think of this place as hipster Mayberry," said neighbor Brent Nyitray. "It's where a lot of people are coming from Brooklyn and places like that. It's a very kind of cool, hip area. Violence just seems like way, way out of the question. I'm shocked."

As police stepped up patrols, residents were taking extra precautions.

"For the first time having to lock our doors, and we're advised to keep our outside lights one," George Van Marter told CBS 2's Andrea Grymes.

New York State Crime Stoppers described the suspect as a white male about 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall wearing a hooded jacket or shirt.

Crime Stoppers, in cooperation with state police, were offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.

Anyone with information was asked to call the New York State Crime Stoppers hotline, at (866) 313-TIPS, download the New York State Crime Stoppers mobile app, or go to the Crime Stoppers website.
