Scott Shannon retires after nearly 40 years in New York radio

DJ Scott Shannon marks his final broadcast on WCBS 101.1 FM

NEW YORK -- It's the end of an era for a well known voice in radio . 

Legendary DJ Scott Shannon capped off a nearly 40-year run in New York on Friday morning. 

Shannon helped launch Z100 in 1983, serving as program director and host of the "Z Morning Zoo." He also co-hosted the morning drive-time show "Scott and Todd Big Show" on WPLJ for 23 years.

In 2014, he joined WCBS FM, where he co-hosted the morning show with Patty Steele.

The 75-year-old's last broadcast originated from the Blythedale Children's Hospital in Valhalla.

Over the course of 25 years, he has raised over $5 million for the hospital.

He received a huge standing ovation as he left the hospital Friday.
