School To Be In Session On 2 Saturdays In Fort Lee, N.J.
FORT LEE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Students in Fort Lee, N.J., will miss out on the opportunity to sleep in, or watch their favorite cartoons, on a couple of Saturday mornings this month.
In order to make up for snow days during the current school year, Fort Lee schools will be holding classes on two Saturdays – March 22 and March 29.
All students have been asked to report to their schools at 8 a.m., and will be dismissed at noon.
Students will also have to give up two days on their spring break. Classes will be in session for the full school day on Monday, April 14, and Monday, April 15.
Students will be exempt from class only for religious observances, provided the parent notifies the principal.
The district said holding classes on Saturday was preferable to taking days away from future breaks or adding days at the end of the year.
"The least collateral damage is going to be a half-day on Saturday," schools Superintendent Paul J. Saxton said last month.
