Attorney General Warns Mets, Yankees Fans To Watch Out For Ticket Scams
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says Mets and Yankees fans hoping to see playoff games should make sure they don't fall for ticket scams.
Issuing a consumer alert Sunday, Schneiderman said scammers often target major sporting events.
"New Yorkers have much to be excited about with both the Mets and the Yankees in the playoffs," he said in a news release. "Fans should follow a few simple steps to avoid falling victim to scammers who may target ticket buyers for the big games."
The attorney general fans should watch out for ticket prices that seem too good to be true, and should avoid paying by cash or wire transfer in favor of credit cards.
Anyone who believes he or she is the victim of a ticket scam should call the attorney general's Consumer Frauds Bureau at 800-771-7755.
The playoffs start Tuesday. The Mets are in the postsesaon for the first time since 2006, and the Yankees for the first time since 2012.
The teams played each other for the World Series in 2000, with the Yankees winning.
