Eight Banks Robbed In Citywide Spree; Police Search For Suspect

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD  is looking for a suspect in connection to a string of bank robberies across New York City.

According to police, the suspect targeted eight banks between September 2015 and April 2016. Seven out of the eight banks targeted in the string were Santander bank branches -- one Wells Fargo location was also targeted on Sept. 11, 2015.

In all reported incidents, the suspect allegedly approaches a teller at the bank, slips them a note and then demands money, police said.

The suspect has acquired more than $12,500 collectively throughout the spree, police said.

The NYPD describes the suspect as a man in his 40s, 5'9" tall and weighing around 170 pounds. Surveillance images of the suspect can be viewed above.

The NYPD is asking anyone with information on the incidents to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
