Rockland Ad Campaign Hopes To Lure Businesses Into County
NEW CITY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Rockland County is reaching across the border into New Jersey as part of its effort to lure businesses into the county.
Rockland County is wrestling with a $145 million budget deficit and the road to recovery starts with investment and the search for new companies and jobs, WCBS 880's Sean Adams reported.
That's why the county has launched an ad campaign designed to attract companies around the Tri-State area that touts the county's proximity to New York City, its educated workforce and superior schools.
In recent years, Rockland has lured a handful of businesses from neighboring Bergen County, N.J., including Hunter Douglas and Raymour & Flanigan.
Rockland County Executive Ed Day called it a" healthy competition" and recently told the Mahwah Chamber of Commerce that he wants to work with Bergen County on a number of issues.
"I look at it as a healthy competition, we're not targeting anybody. Most people who understand business understand there is a buyer and seller and there has to be a match of a need," he said. "So, it will be in some cases, Bergen will provide that need and be that buyer and sometimes Rockland will and we're actually working together on shared services so this is not a battle across the border."
Day said the old Novartis site is Suffern is attracting attention. According to the Bergen Record, United Water, Goya and UPS are taking a look at Rockland County.
