People Checked For Smoke Inhalation After Fire In Rikers Island Cell
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Several people were being checked out for smoke inhalation Thursday evening after a mattress fire was reported in a jail cell at Rikers Island.
The FDNY said the fire was out before firefighters arrived at the correctional complex. They arrived around 8:10 p.m.
As of the 9 p.m. hour, fire crews were checking people out for smoke inhalation, the FDNY said. There had been no transports to hospitals as of 9:15 p.m., the FDNY said.
