Rex Ryan Had Lap-Band Removed In Show Of Solidarity With Brother Rob

BUFFALO, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Now, that's one supportive brother.

Bills coach Rex Ryan confirmed Tuesday that he underwent an arthroscopic procedure to remove the Lap-band that helped him lose 100 pounds. He told the New York Post on Monday that he took the measure to show solidarity with his twin brother, Buffalo assistant head coach Rob Ryan, who had to have his Lap-band, which restricts food and beverage consumption, removed due to complications.

Rex Ryan has gained more than 30 pounds since the procedure. He shied away from discussing his motivation for having the device removed Tuesday, instead, in true Rex Ryan fashion, offering up a joke.

"I did it a long time ago, so I'm not going to get into those things," the former Jets coach said, according to ESPN. "But as somebody pointed out, several times, we won more games when I was heavier, so I'll do anything for the squad."

He, however, told the Post that he said to his brother: "We'll figure this out together (without the Lap-band)."

Rex Ryan, who once weighed as much as 350 pounds, said he feels fine and that he's still implementing healthier habits he picked up after undergoing the Lap-band surgery in 2010.
