Reports: Ex-Giant Chris Canty To Visit Jets On Friday
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The New York Jets are bringing in defensive lineman Chris Canty for a two-day visit starting Friday, according to multiple reports.
The 10-year veteran was cut by the Baltimore Ravens on Feb. 27, which makes him eligible to sign with any team before Tuesday's official start of free agency.
Canty won a Super Bowl ring as a member of the New York Giants from 2009-12 after spending his first four years in Dallas. The 32-year-old Bronx native started 24 games at defensive end for the Ravens over the past two seasons.
"I am going to continue to prepare to play again and will explore other possibilities to play," Canty said after his release last week.
Known as a positive force in the locker room, Canty had 33 tackles, .5 sacks and a forced fumble in 2014, playing in only 11 games due to wrist surgery to remove a staph infection.
Canty currently resides in New Jersey, according to the New York Post. The Jets and Giants share MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
The Jets already have difference makers at defensive end in Muhammad Wilkerson and Sheldon Richardson, though rookie general manager Mike Maccagnan could lose backup linemen Leger Douzable and Kenrick Ellis in free agency.
The team added some depth at DE on Wednesday by signing Ronald Talley, who played for new Jets head coach Todd Bowles in Arizona. The 29-year-old journeyman has 14 tackles and a sack in 15 NFL games.
