Report: Yankees Mulling Omar Minaya For Front-Office Role
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The New York Yankees are giving "serious" thought to hiring former Mets general manager Omar Minaya, according to Newsday.
Minaya, currently serving as San Diego's senior vice president of baseball operations, would be given a front-office role under GM Brian Cashman, the newspaper reported. The two execs reportedly have a friendly relationship.
But the New York Daily News reported there have been no talks between Minaya and the Yankees, and therefore no agreement is imminent. If he's brought on, Minaya would likely work in a scouting position or as an advisor to Cashman, who is under contract through 2017, the Daily News reported.
Minaya, 55, made several high-profile signings after his hiring by the Mets in September 2004 and enjoyed a run of prosperity in Queens, highlighted by a division title and NLCS appearance in 2006.
He was replaced by Sandy Alderson following the 2010 season.
