Keyshawn Johnson Arrested On Domestic Violence Charges
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Former Jets wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson is in trouble with the law.
Currently an analyst for ESPN, Johnson was arrested after he allegedly got into a physical altercation with his girlfriend in Calabasas, Calif., the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said on Monday.
A Sheriff's Department statement said deputies responded to a residence in Calabasas at 12:48 a.m. Monday and determined the resident and his ex-girlfriend were involved in a domestic dispute, and the resident was arrested for misdemeanor domestic battery.
Tabloid site TMZ reported that the 41-year-old former All-Pro wide receiver posted $20,000 bail and was released.
Johnson played 11 seasons in the NFL for four teams and was a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Super Bowl XXXVII championship team in 2003.
The former No. 1 overall pick in the 1996 draft by the Jets, Johnson had 305 receptions and 31 touchdowns in four seasons for New York before disputes over his contract resulted in a trade to Tampa Bay prior to the 2000 season.
Johnson, who had four 1,000-yard receiving seasons, finished his career with 814 receptions, 10,571 yards and 64 touchdowns.
ESPN said it was aware of the arrest and was looking into the matter.
A call to Johnson's agent was not immediately returned.
