Report: Computers On NYPD Network Used To Make Edits To Eric Garner Wikipedia Page
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A report claims computers operating on the New York Police Department's network at its One Police Plaza headquarters have been used to alter Wikipedia pages containing details of controversial cases involving Eric Garner, Sean Bell and Amadou Diallo.
Capital New York reports it traced the edits to NYPD computers through a series of IP addresses registered to police headquarters.
On the evening of Dec. 3, 2014, after a Staten Island grand jury failed to indict a police officer in the death of Eric Garner, a computer user at One Police Plaza reportedly changed "Garner raised both his arms in the air" to "Garner flailed his arms about as he spoke."
On the same night, Capital New York reports a computer user at NYPD headquarters added "Garner, who was considerably larger than any of the officers, continued to struggle with him."
NYPD IP addresses have also been used to edit entries on "Stop, Question and Frisk," and to delete sections on NYPD scandals, Capital New York reports.
A NYPD spokesperson contacted by a reporter at Capital New York said the matter is under internal review.
