Report: Carmelo Anthony To Visit With Rockets, Mavs, Bulls
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Carmelo Anthony is already working on his itinerary for July 1 and beyond.
The superstar forward, who opted out of his deal with the New York Knicks earlier this week, will visit Houston, Dallas and Chicago once the NBA's free-agency period begins, according to ESPN.
Los Angeles and Miami have also been linked to Anthony, who hasn't ruled out re-signing with the Knicks. Citing a source, ESPN reported "there is no true favorite in his mind."
Meanwhile, it appears teams are salivating at the prospect of teaming up Anthony and his four-time MVP friend, free-agent-to-be LeBron James.
ESPN, in a separate report, said Cleveland and Atlanta are among the teams looking to clear enough room under the salary cap to add both stars this offseason. Lakers have also reportedly been brainstorming ways to bring both Anthony and James into the fold with Kobe Bryant.
And then there's the Heat, who would need Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade to opt out and re-sign at a discount before any dreams of a "Big Four" can be realized.
But wait, there's more.
It's been said the Rockets, if they can free up enough cash, could add James and then attempt a sign-and-trade with the Knicks for Anthony, sending guard James Harden to New York.
As for the cap-strapped Knicks, team president Phil Jackson began his much-anticipated roster overhaul Wednesday by trading Raymond Felton and Tyson Chandler to the Mavericks in exchange for four players -- Jose Calderon, Samuel Dalembert, Shane Larkin and Wayne Ellington -- and two second-round picks in Thursday's draft.
"The journey to build this team for the upcoming season and beyond continues," Jackson said in a statement. "We have added players with this move that will fit right in to our system while maintaining future flexibility."
The Knicks and Brooklyn Nets are reportedly among the teams on James' list of potential destinations, though both are widely considered long shots due to salary cap constraints.
