Experts Offer Advice After Recent Drownings Off Long Island
LONG ISLAND (CBSNewYork) -- Experts are offering life-saving advice after strong rip currents are blamed for two drownings off Long Island over the weekend.
As WCBS 880's Mike Xirinachs reported, Long Beach lifeguard supervisor John Skudin's advice can't help the two Brooklyn men who drowned off Long Island's south shore.
"Don't go in the water without a lifeguard."
It was advice the two victims failed to heed -- but swimmer Hannah Landry is listening.
"Yeah it's really good to scream for help," Landry said.
Landry admits she has screamed for help before and won't hesitate to scream again. But as lifeguard emphasize, "we can't help if we are not there."
"If you take that chance, remember you are taking a chance with your own life."
