Eunice Dwumfour killing: Rashid Ali Bynum appears in court on murder charges
SAYREVILLE, N.J. -- There is new information on the investigation into the murder of a Sayerville councilwoman.
The man accused of killing her appeared in a Virginia courtroom on Wednesday.
CBS2 has more on his connections to the rising political star.
Rashid Ali Bynum is charged with murdering Sayreville Councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour. The 30-year-old Republican politician was shot and killed back in February as she sat in her SUV outside her apartment complex in the Parlin section of town.
It's also where prosecutors say they found a trail of evidence linking Bynum to the crime scene, including surveillance video and a white Hyundai.
"I feel so relieved. I was worried at night, coming and going, not knowing who was creeping around," Sayreville resident Alisa Giambalvo said.

Council President Christian Onuoha, also the treasurer of Champions Royal Assembly, Dwumfour's church, said the councilwoman knew the 28-year-old suspect between 2016 and 2017.
"I do recall him, you know, attending the Bible study Councilwoman Dwumfour -- Pastor Eunice -- did coordinate in Virginia, Chesapeake area with Fire Congress Fellowship," Onuoha said.
Prosecutors say Bynum's contact information was in the councilwoman's phone under the Bible study's acronym FCF.
Onuoha said Bynum even came to New Jersey, staying at Sky Top Gardens in Sayreville, where the councilwoman lived for a time.
"It was the ministry's residences and different leaders in ministry stayed there at different times. For a large period, she stayed there as well," Onuoha said.

However, he said everyone lost touch with Bynum after 2017.
"So much of the councilwoman's life was service. Those who listened to her preach, that was the fabric of her message to serve," Onuoha said.
Prosecutors haven't revealed a motive. Family members say that's left them with more questions.
An extradition hearing is scheduled for Bynum at the end of June. The prosecutor said the investigation is ongoing.
