New York City adds $12 million to support schools with migrant students
NEW YORK -- New York City's schools chancellor announced Monday $12 million in additional funding for schools to support new students who are seeking asylum.
The funds will to schools that require additional resources to accommodate an influx of migrant students in temporary housing.
The city says schools with six or more new students will receive an allocation of $2,000 for each child enrolled in city schools since July.
Last week, Comptroller Brad Lander said the city should allocate an additional $34 million to properly serve the more than 5,500 new students.
