Police: Driver Charged In Stabbing, Deadly Hit-And-Run In Queens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A driver who police say stabbed two people before ramming his car into a crowd on a sidewalk in Queens following a fight over a parking spot has been charged in the deadly rampage.

22-year-old Adrian Harry appeared in front of a judge Monday night in a patriotic Mets t-shirt with his head down as he was remanded into custody, CBS2's Valerie Castro reported.

The prosecuting attorney read the statement Harry allegedly made to police after his arrest. In it, he admitted to using a folding knife to stab two people early Sunday morning in South Ozone Park after getting in an argument over a parking spot.

He also admitted to getting behind the wheel of his car and running over six people, including one of the stabbing victims on the sidewalk.

In surveillance video, the Harry's white sedan can be seen jumping the curb, barreling down Liberty Avenue near 128th Street around 4:30 a.m. Sunday.

"They were screaming," said witness Millie Urbina. "They were crazy, they were screaming before the car started driving by the sidewalk."

Police said Harry's own friend, 23-year-old Richardo Chattergoon, was killed when the car slammed into him. The five others who were hit had broken bones and head injuries.

Harry was later caught after taking himself to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, police said.

"Over a parking space? It just doesn't make any sense to me," said neighbor Matthew Powers. "I don't understand and people have no value for life."

The suspect has never been arrested before, CBS2's Reena Roy reported.

One of the victims who was both stabbed and hit by the car is in critical condition. The others are expected to recover.

The senseless rampage set off by a seemingly insignificant argument could put Harry behind bars for life.
