FBI Searches For Serial Bank Robbery Suspect In Queens
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The FBI on Thursday was in search of a suspect in a string of armed bank robberies in Queens.
The man is believed to be behind at least 12 different robberies, and he displayed a handgun in his waistband in five of them, police said. In all of the robberies, the suspect passed a note to the teller and made off with cash, police said.
The robberies happened in and around Jackson Heights, East Elmhurst and Astoria, Queens, police said. The most recent was on Dec. 9 of last year, at the Chase Bank at 74-04 Eliot Ave.
Other banks that were robbed include:
• The Chase Bank at 60-67 Myrtle Ave., on Dec. 6;
• The Chase Bank at 69-55 Grand Ave., on Oct. 4;
• The Dime Savings Bank of Williamsburgh at 75-23 37th Ave., on Aug. 30;
• The Santander Bank at 89-01 Northern Blvd. on July 22– an incident that the FB classified as an attempt;
• The Chase Bank at 77-01 31st Ave., on June 7 of last year.
The suspect was described as a black or Hispanic male with a medium to light complexion, standing about 6 feet tall and weighing 20 to 250 pounds. He wears glasses and a baseball cap – usually of a sport team – during the robberies, the FBI said.
He is considered armed and dangerous.
