Police: Queens Woman Dies After Being Injured In Robbery, Upgraded Charges Expected
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Upgraded charges were expected against a man, after an 80-year-old woman apparently suffered a violent death in Jackson Heights, Queens this past weekend.
Police were called to the scene of a robbery 76th Street and 35th Avenue in Queens around 4:40 p.m. Saturday, the NYPD said.
They found Celica Londono, 80, at the scene with injuries to her abdomen, arm and face, police said.
Londono was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where she was pronounced dead on Wednesday, police said.
A suspect – Jordan Vecchio, 32, of Brooklyn – was apprehended Saturday and was charged the day of the incident, police said.
The New York City Medical Examiner's office has ruled Londono's death a homicide, and additional charges were pending late Thursday, police said.
