Queens Apartment Complex Sued Over Accusations Of Discrimination
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A Queens apartment complex is being sued after accusations of discrimination.
Two men each say they applied separately for an apartment in the Sand Castle apartment complex in Far Rockaway, Queens, but were turned down because they were using vouchers from the city's HIV/AIDS program, WCBS 880's Ginny Kosola reports.
"Housing discrimination is rampant in New York City," attorney Armen Merjian with Housing Works said.
Merjian is representing the men and their lawsuit, which seeks damages.
"The agent or employee for this complex informed them that she had received a memo from the owner stating that they were not taking clients of the HIV/AIDS Services Administration," he said.
Merjian says the city's Fair Housing Justice Center investigated and verified the men's claims.
