2 Children And Adult Rushed To Elmhurst Hospital Center After Being Hit By Cement Truck

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Two children and an adult were injured Wednesday in an accident involving a cement truck in Queens.

Police are questioning the driver of the truck to find out exactly what happened as the three victims were crossing the street, CBS2's Valerie Castro reported.

The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. at Junction Boulevard and 55th Avenue right at the border of the Corona and Elmhurst neighborhoods.

The truck belonged to Corona Transit Mix, WCBS 880's Marla Diamond reported. 

There's a school nearby and many parents were picking up their children when the crash occurred.

Police said the three victims -- a 36-year-old mother, 5-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son -- were taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center.

Police said the mother sustained a left leg injury below the knee. The children sustained minor injuries, police said.

One woman who saw the aftermath said she saw a woman suffering with a serious injury to her leg.

"So I ran over there and I noticed there was a lady on the floor with one leg already -- it seemed like she was going to lose her leg, and a little girl, maybe 2 or 3 years old, she was laying down and a lot of people was trying to help them out," said witness Marisol Hernandez.

Police said her leg was severed.

Police said both the mother and the driver claim to have had the right of way when the crash occurred. So far, there have been no summonses or arrests.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
