5-Month-Old Puppy Thrown Out Of Moving Car In Uniondale
MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Officials on Long Island are trying to determine who threw a puppy out of a moving car over the weekend.
Detective Robert Sowers of the Nassau County SPCA said someone callously and with total disregard tossed the puppy out of a car on Bedford Avenue in Uniondale on Saturday night.
Sowers said there was an eyewitness.
"The woman had witnessed a car slowing down, a door opening, and the dog being thrown out," Sowers said. "Then the car sped up and took off."
It does not appear the 5-month-old puppy was injured in the incident, but it is likely there was past abuse, 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria reported.
She is frightened and apprehensive, but otherwise OK, WCBS 880's Mike Xirinachs reported.
"We already vaccinated the puppy," veterinarian Dr. Ned Horowitz said. "The puppy did have multiple parasites, already treated for that."
Rescuers have named the mixed puppy Bandit.
"She may have some lab, she may have some pit bull, but also that corkscrew tail that she has she may have some bulldog in her," Horowitz said. "It's an adorable dog and she will make somebody a very wonderful pet."
Bandit is in need of a home. She is now being cared for at Massapequa Pet Vet.
A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
"Somebody knows who owned this pup," Sowers said. "We're fed up as all animal people are with the total callousness and disregard for life that people show."
Anyone with information is asked to call Sowers at 516-843-7722 or email cruletystoppers@ncspca.us or news@ncspca.us.
This comes less than a month after a similar incident in neighboring Suffolk County, where a person pushed a dog out of a car and abandoned it.
