Pothole Repairs Shut Down 2 Lanes Of Bronx-Whitestone Bridge
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Two southbound lanes on the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge were to be closed overnight for pothole repairs.
The lanes of the bridge between the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx and the Whitestone section of Queens were to be closed until 5 a.m. Wednesday, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority said in a tweet.
The cold weather last week made for a rash of potholes on city streets. From New York to New Jersey, repair crews have been working around the clock to fix the craters.
Last winter, the New Jersey Department of Transportation rolled out its "pothole killer," a machine that patches the holes quicker than crews can.
This year, they're putting it to work again.
And the New York City Department of Transportation said that from Dec. 31 to Jan. 8 crews filled more than 8,000 potholes.
With plenty of winter left, automotive experts say drivers should buckle up and expect a bumpy ride until spring.
