Port Authority Official Floats Idea Of 1 Pay Card For All NJ-NY Mass Transit
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- How about a way to make your commuting decisions easier and simplifying paying for your trip at the same time?
These ideas were floated at a forum Tuesday, WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported.
If you take NJTRANSIT to the PATH and then jump on the subway, you have a wallet full of cards.
Port Authority Vice Chairman Scott Rechler says there has to be a better way.
"Why don't we use technology to create one form of pay card for every transit system in New York," Rechler suggested.
Speaking at an Association for a Better New York forum, Rechler said a multi-agency app would also help.
"So when someone's leaving their office, they could be told exactly what's the best mass transit way to get home," he said.
Rechler favors some type of congestion pricing to help pay for capital projects, Haskell reported.
