Police: Suspect Stole iPhone, Threatened Man On Subway Train On LES

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Saturday were searching for a suspect who allegedly stole an iPhone from a sleeping man's pocket on a subway train on the Lower East Side, and threatened the man upon being confronted.

Around 4:50 a.m. Saturday, the 31-year-old man was fast asleep on an inbound D Train, when the suspect yanked an iPhone 5 from his pants pocket, police said. The victim woke up and confronted the suspect, demanding his iPhone back, police said.

The suspect threatened to cut the victim, and ran off when the train arrived at the Grand Street stop, police said.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male standing about 5 feet 10 inches tall with a mustache. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweat shirt with an Ohio State Buckeyes logo on the front, and blue jeans, police said.

Police have released a photo of the suspect.
