Police: Shoplifter In Riverhead Found With Knife, Guns & Ammunition

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A shoplifter on Long Island was caught with a slew of weapons and ammunition, according to authorities.

Police in Riverhead said Nicholas Kieltyka, of Kings Park, was arrested Saturday after he was spotted removing and concealing ammunition at a Walmart on Route 88.

After police took Kieltyka into custody, investigators said he was found to be carrying a switch blade, a loaded .40-calibler handgun and an additional magazine with .40-caliber rounds.

Police then searched his car, where they found an unauthorized assault rifle with high-capacity magazines, Newsday reported.

Kieltyka is facing charges of criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm and other crimes. He was held on $300,000 bail and was remanded to the Suffolk County jail.
