Police searching for Timothy Taylor in the stabbing death of Theresa Gregg in Brooklyn
NEW YORK -- A manhunt is underway for 35-year-old Timothy Taylor, who is believed to be connected to the separate murders of his girlfriend in Brooklyn and his ex-wife in Schenectady.
NYPD sources tell CBS2 Taylor is a person of interest in the murder of Theresa Gregg, a 37-year-old mother who was stabbed to death inside her apartment in Williamsburg on May 13.
"Theresa Gregg was an amazing, vibrant woman who was full of life," said Stephanie McGraw, founder and CEO of W.A.R.M. Domestic Violence Rescue.
The victim was an officer with the Department of Homeless Services. The department released the following statement:
"This is an absolutely heart-breaking tragedy, and our deepest condolences go out to Officer Theresa Gregg's family, friends, colleagues, and close ones. We are ever-grateful for Officer Gregg's invaluable contributions and tireless dedication to serving and supporting vulnerable New Yorkers and ensuring a safe environment for them. This is a tremendous loss for the agency and our city. We stand ready to support Officer Gregg's family during this difficult time every which way we can."
Gregg's two daughters found her dead in her bedroom.
Taylor was the victim's boyfriend.
"He had his ups and downs. Sometimes he's mad, sometimes he's happy," a neighbor said.
One neighbor, who asked to be anonymous, told CBS2 about his last encounter with Taylor.
"He came and told me he just got engaged to her and she's pregnant," the neighbor said.
Early Sunday morning, two weeks after Gregg was killed, police upstate in Schenectady say Taylor's ex-wife, 44-year-old Tishawn Folkes-Taylor, was killed in her home.
"She was very outgoing, didn't hurt nobody," the victim's brother said.
The victim's brother told CBS2 after they divorced in 2021, his sister got an order of protection against Taylor.
"Had she said that he was being violent to her, hurting her?" CBS2's Ali Bauman asked.
"Yeah. Well, yeah," the victim's brother said.
"Is that why they separated?" Bauman asked.
"Yes," the brother said. "I was so proud of her, making that move. I was very proud of her."
He says their two children, 6 and 10 years old, were home when she died.
"Domestic violence is something that just doesn't happen in one day. It is something that happens slowly over a period of time," McGraw said.
McGraw works with domestic violence victims in New York and knew Gregg.
"We encourage women to tell your story because by telling your story, it might save another life," McGraw said.
Police are still actively searching for Taylor, and there's now a $5,000 reward for information leading to his whereabouts.
